Literacy

The Corona Public Library Adult Literacy program serves local patrons by providing free tutoring for English-speaking adults in basic reading and writing skills.  Students are matched one-to-one with volunteer tutors who meet with them at the library.  There is also a weekly Phonics class that students have the option of attending.

In addition, through a partnership with the Corona-Norco Adult School, we offer English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) classes every morning Monday through Thursday.  Registration is $10 paid when the student starts the class, but the classes themselves are free.

The Literacy Program has served the people of Corona and Norco since 1994, and has often been recognized by the City Council and various organizations and service agencies for the difference it has been making in people's lives!

Hundreds of local residents have been helped in reaching short term as well as long term goals through this wonderful program!  Common goals adult learners aim for are passing the GED test, driver's test, or U.S. citizenship test.

Others simply want to be able to help their children with their homework or read stories to their babies and toddlers!  Many are looking for a new job or promotion but are held down by their painful lack of basic reading and writing skills!   When these hurdles are overcome and they achieve those goals, it is a real success story!
