Volunteer Job Descriptions for Adults

The following job descriptions outline individual volunteer opportunities at the Library.  Volunteer opportunities for groups also may be arranged with advance notice.  Please call (951) 279-3689.

Library Greeter (18 and above) - Will sit or stand at the Welcome Desk and greet patrons as they pass through the lobby.  Includes answering questions and referring patrons to appropriate locations within the Library as needed.

Friends BookShop (18 and above)-Staffs the desk for the Friends of the Library BookShop at a regularly assigned time and day.  Sells used books and new gifts in the shop as a fundraiser for the Library.

Heritage Room (15 and above)-Assists with the cataloging and filing of items of importance to Corona's history including books, documents and photos.  Includes making copies and some typing.  See specific Heritage Room volunteer opportunities here.

Homework Center Tutor (12-adult)-Helps children in grades K-6 with homework assignments.  Tutors must be at leats 12 years old, extending all the way up to adult (18 and over).  The Homework Center is open Monday-Thursday, 3:00-5:00 pm.

Literacy Program Tutor (18 and above)-Works one-to-one with an English-speaking adult on his/her basic reading and writing skills.  Volunteers may tutor any time the Library is open.  The suggested time commitment is once or twice a week for an hour to an hour-and-a-half each session.  This position requires additional training provided by the Library.

ESL Instructor (18 and above)- Teaches English-as-a-Second Language in a small group setting.  Classes usually last 1-2 hours once a week.  Students' level of proficiency may vary from beginning all the way to advanced.

Shelver/Shelf Reading (18 and above)-Shelves books, refiles periodicals and does shelf-reading (making sure that books are in proper alphabetical and numerical order) to make sure our books are where they belong.  Straightens shelves so books look neat and appealing to patrons.

Special Events (14 and older)- Helps out with the set up of equipment, tables, booths, etc. for occasional special programs.  Assists Library staff in conducting the event as needed.  Helps in general cleanup afterward.
