Volunteer Job Descriptions for Adults

The following job descriptions outline individual volunteer opportunities at the Library.  Volunteer opportunities for groups also may be arranged with advance notice.  Please call (951) 736-2389.

Homework Helpers (12 & up) Help children in grades K-6 with homework assignments.  The Homework Center is open Monday-Thursday, 3:00-5:00 pm

Adult Reading Assistance Tutor (18 and above) - Help change someone's life by working one-on-one with an English-speaking adult on his/her basic reading and writing skills.  Volunteers may tutor any time the Library is open.  The suggested time commitment is once or twice a week for an hour to an hour-and-a-half each session. 

—Book Duster18 & up, Great for Special Needs w/Caregiver: Keep the top of books and shelves clean!

Book Mender (18 and above)- Mend books that have various issues-broken or torn spines, need jacket cover replacements; need pages glued or taped back together; experience preferred, but minimal training can be provided. Currently no openings.

—Book Straightener18 & up, Great for Special Needs w/Caregiver: Line up the books neatly on our shelves!

Friends BookShop (18 and above)-Staffs the desk for the Friends of the Library BookShop at a regularly assigned time and day.  Sells used books and new gifts in the shop as a fundraiser for the Library. May also work behind the scenes to prepare books and magazines for sale. NO CURRENT OPENINGS, FALL 2016.

Heritage Room (15 and above)-Assists with the cataloging and filing of items of importance to Corona's history including books, documents and photos.  Includes making copies and some typing.  See specific Heritage Room volunteer opportunities here. Currently seeking Transcriptionist!

Shelf Reader (15 and above)-Shelves books, refiles periodicals and does shelf-reading (making sure that books are in proper alphabetical and numerical order) to make sure our books are where they belong.  Straightens shelves so books look neat and appealing to patrons.

Special Events (14 and older)- Helps out with the set up of equipment, tables, booths, etc. for occasional special programs.  Assists Library staff in conducting the event as needed.  Helps in general cleanup afterward.

Storyteller (15 and above) - Read stories to young children in the preschool area of the children's room. We supply a cart of pre-selected favorite titles which kids love!

Tech Coach  (15 and above)-Directly  help the public work with computers and other gadgets.  May include a regular schedule or drop-in.
