Volunteer Job Descriptions for Teens

The following job descriptions outline individual volunteer opportunities at the Library.  Volunteer opportunities for groups also may be arranged with advance notice.  Please call (951) 736-2389.

Book Cleaning Crew (12 - 17)-  Work with peers to brighten up some well-loved books.  Saturdays, 9:30 - 11:30. 

Homework Helper (12 & up)-Helps children in grades K-6 with homework assignments.  The Homework Center is open Monday-Thursday, 3:00-5:00 pm.

Shelf Reader (15 and above)-Shelves books, refiles periodicals and does shelf-reading (making sure that books are in proper alphabetical and numerical order) to make sure our books are where they belong.  Straightens shelves so books look neat and appealing to patrons.

Storyteller (15 and above) - Read stories to young children in the preschool area of the children's room. We supply a cart of pre-selected favorite titles which kids love!

Summer Reading Program (entering 9th - 12th grade)- Assists staff in registering children, teens and adults for our very popular Summer Reading Program.  Includes record-keeping.  Each volunteer must be at least an 8th grade graduate and must work will with young children. (Sign-ups taken only in the spring)

Special Events (14 and older)- Helps out with the set up of equipment, tables, booths, etc. for occasional special programs.  Assists Library staff in conducting the event as needed.  Helps in general cleanup afterward

Tech Coach  (15 and above)-Directly  help the public work with computers and other gadgets.  May include a regular schedule or drop-in.
