Volunteer Job Descriptions Heritage Room
W.D. Addison Heritage Room Volunteer
Do you like history? Help the W.D. Addison Heritage Room preserve the history of our community.
The Corona Public Library's Heritage Room collection includes photographs, slides, newspapers, microfilm, sound recordings, film, maps, and books that document the history of Corona. Riverside County, and to a lesser extent, the state of California. The Heritage Room is seeking a volunteer interested in scanning photographs and other documents for the Heritage Room's online database as well as assistance with data entry and inventory projects. Knowledge of Corona's history is not necessary.
Descriptions of Volunteer Opportunities:
Filing Newspaper Index--requires the volunteer to file index cards in alphabetical order by the subject heading provided.
Transcription--requires the volunteer to type or transcribe the printed and rapidly fading Alphabetical Deceased Listed from Sunnyslope Cemetery into an Excel spreadsheet. The project is currently in progress, but more volunteers are needed.
Inventory--requires the volunteer to work under the supervision of Library Assistant Trixy Betsworth. Volunteers will enter the barcodes on the cover of Heritage Room books in Workflows (our Library catalog) to assist in the inventory of the collection.
Scanning Photographs--requires the volunteer to scan and create records for scanned items in the Library's catalog. Volunteers will operate within best practice guidelines for archives to ensure the photographs are not damaged by the scanning process. Training will be provided.
General Requirements: Computer literacy, especially knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of Photoshop is a plus!
Work: on-site, during the Heritage Room's normal business hours
Hours: Monday & Tuesday 3 pm - 7 pm.
