Spotlight on Local History
The Town Improvement Association of Corona, California formed in February, 1899. It soon became the Woman’s Improvement Club. The organization is responsible for starting the Corona Humane Society, the City Sanitation Department was begun at their instigation, and they took on the care and planting of city parks until the city provided park maintenance. In 1912 they began the Settlement House to aid the less fortunate. They provided books and furniture to begin the Library, provided food and milk for the underprivileged at schools, bed linens for the hospital, established a local chapter of the Red Cross, and more.
